Overview
SkyBrief ("we", "us", "our") is operated by an individual based in Oregon, United States. We built SkyBrief to be a simple, useful tool for pilots — and we take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it.
We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We collect the minimum necessary to make the app work.
What we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address. You may optionally provide your name, home airport, default aircraft type, and pilot certificate number. These are stored in our database (Supabase) and used only to personalize your experience.
Briefing and route data
When you run a briefing or save a route, we store that data associated with your account. This includes the ICAO codes you enter, your saved route names, and briefing history. We use this to power features like one-click re-briefing and your weekly weather digest.
Payment information
If you upgrade to SkyBrief Pro, your payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card number, expiration date, or CVV. Stripe provides us with a customer ID and subscription status only. You can review Stripe's privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.
Usage data
We collect basic usage information such as which pages you visit and when you last used the app. This helps us understand how pilots use SkyBrief and where to focus improvements. We do not use third-party analytics trackers (no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel).
Email address
We use your email to send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, Pro upgrade confirmation) and, if you opt in, a weekly weather digest. You can unsubscribe from the weekly digest at any time from your account page or via the unsubscribe link in any email.
What we don't collect
- We do not collect your precise GPS location
- We do not read your contacts, calendar, or other device data
- We do not use advertising trackers or sell data to third parties
- We do not collect information about your actual flights
How we use your data
- To provide the service — your saved routes, briefing history, and preferences power the core features of SkyBrief
- To send emails — account-related transactional emails and, if enabled, the weekly weather digest
- To process payments — subscription status is stored to determine which features you can access
- To improve the app — aggregate, anonymized usage patterns help us prioritize new features
Data storage and security
Your data is stored in Supabase, which runs on AWS infrastructure in the United States. Supabase enforces row-level security, meaning your data is isolated from other users at the database level. All data is transmitted over HTTPS.
We take reasonable precautions to protect your data, but no system is 100% secure. If we become aware of a breach that affects your data, we will notify you by email.
Third-party services
SkyBrief uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase — database and authentication (privacy policy)
- Stripe — payment processing (privacy policy)
- Resend — transactional email delivery (privacy policy)
- Netlify — hosting and edge functions (privacy policy)
- NOAA Aviation Weather Center — weather data (public government data, no personal data shared)
- FAA — NOTAM and TFR data (public government data, no personal data shared)
Data retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Briefing history is retained for 7 days on the free plan and 90 days on Pro. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or financial compliance purposes (e.g. payment records).
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Export your saved routes and briefing history
- Opt out of non-transactional emails at any time

Children
SkyBrief is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice in the app. Continued use of SkyBrief after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
